You have patched your pieces of craft cotton fabric together into blocks. You have
stitched sashing between the blocks to nearly make the top of your patchwork quilt.
Now it is important to add a border or perhaps 2 co-ordinating borders to frame the
patchwork.
Borders may be very narrow or a few inches wide but they form a frame of cotton fabric
around the more intricate centre patches and sashing. Think of this as completing the
quilt with a frame as you would a picture.
Borders may also be constructed of patchwork themselves such as small squares or triangles
but a very pleasing effect is achieved using a simple plain or textured-plain cotton
fabric.
