The patchwork is done and you have perhaps a large piece of cotton material comprised of
many patchwork shapes. You have sashing and borders but what do you do next!
To get a three-dimensional effect you need to quilt the patchwork. To achieve quilting you
use wadding.
Wadding comes in many variations but a good standard wadding to use is needled 100% cotton
wadding.
The wadding is sandwiched between the patchwork top of the quilt and the quilt backing.
The backing of the quilt may be patched itself but is more often a piece of cotton fabric.
The quilt should be carefully tacked or pinned so that quilting can commence.
