You may have spent a long time constructing the main part of a patchwork quilt but what do
you do then?
If you have created a number of patchwork blocks you may either join them together or you
can outline each block with sashing of cotton fabric.
Sashing is a strip of cotton material that frames and gives definition to a block. The
blocks of a quilt may be divided up with sashing rather like a sash window. Plain cotton
fabric or often textured-plain cottons are used but the intention is the same.
This is to display your patchwork blocks on a ground of different cotton fabric.
